A new way of Pathogen Detection

ABOUT EPD TECHNOLOGIES

THE NEW WAY IN DETECTING AND DIAGNOSING PATHOGENS.

Electronic Pathogen Detection (EPD) is a novel technique to identify pathogens in vivo. It is safe, rapid, and non-invasive, painless, and portable. Very important to note is that it can be done remotely with minimal contact with patient or animal. This will guarantee the safety of health care and laboratory workers. The impact it has already had on Veterinary medicine is remarkable and current pilot studies are revealing ground-breaking data collection and analysis methods.

EPD can be described as, or likened to, an electronic form of PCR blood test. PCR is the current state of the art method/technique used globally in laboratory pathogen diagnosis.

There is a significant amount of observational evidence, in humans, backed by laboratory reports (since 2010), that EPD is a quick accurate method of diagnosing pathogens. Recently (2018) we have been enrolled in a research trial with the Veterinary School of the University of Pretoria- (with ethics approval), to formally study the accuracy and application of this equipment in Veterinary Practice.

EPD Technologies Pty Ltd is a new company and our main shareholders are Dr Ilse Erasmus (Medical Doctor), Henning Els (Electronic Engineer) and Jacques Steyn (Town Planner, Environmental Engineer and Entrepreneur). We have over the last decade been developing a new novel technique in detecting pathogens in a living body by means of highly specialized electronic equipment that is able to determine and distinguish the DNA of pathogens ( viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites) in a human or animal body.

We believe the that the medical industry will be challenged with several obstacles making affordable health care a difficult task for South Africa and the world. The recent Covid 19 virus has brought to focus the need for governments globally to be better prepared for epidemics and pandemics. The key to successfully manage the current COVID19 pandemic, is cost effective widespread testing, particularly in those individuals who are asymptomatic, but actively spreading the virus. Governments just don’t have the resources to actively laboratory test a large group of the population.

It is here that we believe that EPD can contribute significantly to the local and global fight against COVID 19 and others yet to come.

Currently all research into diagnosis and treatment of this pandemic is being welcomed and fast tracked to save lives. Therefore, we are looking for the opportunity, to actively engage in the fight against the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic as well as the countless other pathogens harmful to human and animals.

All the data is gathered using scientific methods, then processes it via the EPD algorithm in the cloud database and analyses it with latest artificial Intelligence neural network models, to deliver a result in as little as 10-15 minutes. The actual scan takes 7 minutes per patient or animal. The data will be sent from scanner via internet to cloud database where analysis will take place using the latest artificial intelligence neurologic statistical modelling processes and results will be emailed to patient or medical practise. All IT infrastructure has been setup and we are working on final automation protocols.

We realize more data is required to substantiate our initial findings and are actively developing and gathering data continuously. We have results from recent pilot study and from 47 scans generated 65000 data points to determine if cattle had bovine TB or not. Data showed 98% to 67% accuracy. We need to gather more data, but evidence shows we are successful as we merge all the genome database attributes of a pathogens DNA and determine a result.
